Hamer Hall

Hamer Hall

As you take your seat (one of 2,500!) in Hamer Hall, Australia's premier, multi-level concert venue, get ready for a performance from some of the biggest national and international artists across jazz, rock, pop, multicultural, chamber, classical, cabaret and contemporary music.

Entering Hamer Hall, you may suddenly feel transported to some grand cave, deep below Melbourne's streets. This is because Hamer Hall's walls are actually painted in colours and patterns that reflect Australia's gemstone deposits, giving the impression the building was carved out of a hillside.

Hamer Hall

The venue opened as the 'Melbourne Concert Hall' on 6 November 1982 and quickly became the premier venue for orchestral performance in Melbourne. It was renamed in 2004 in honour of former Victorian Premier Sir Rupert Hamer AC, KCMG ED, who served from 1972-81 and championed the building of what has become Arts Centre Melbourne.

Hamer Hall is home to one of our flagship Resident Companies, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and is the preferred Melbourne performance venue for the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

Open daily from 10am, you can purchase tickets from our ticketing staff for shows in any of our venues.

Arts Centre Melbourne is a couple of minutes walk from Flinders Street Station or take any tram (except tram no.1) along St Kilda Road and disembark at Arts Centre Melbourne. Stop number 14.
