Chef's guide to GEELONG

Chef's guide on where to eat, drink in Geelong and surrounds.

Just an hour down the Princes Freeway is a foodie haven, brimming with fresh produce, delicious bites and homegrown wines.

Two of Geelong's top chefs share their culinary guides to Geelong and surrounds.

The Hot Chicken Project

From local award-winning chef Aaron Turner (Igni) The Hot Chicken Project offers a tasting of late-night Nashvilleinspired spicy fried chicken.

I love the simplicity yet masterful art of perfectly spiced and fried chicken wings, smothered in their evil sauce with a side of slaw and fries.

Fishermen's Pier

Fishermen's Pier is situated on the Geelong waterfront with panoramic views of Corio Bay and Geelong yacht club.

Now leading the kitchen, executive chef Nathan Darlington is bringing dishes alive using fresh and locally sourced produce.

Little Creatures Brewery

This is the place to go for a few pale ales with a few mates on a lazy afternoon.

Set in Geelong's historic old wool mills, Little Creatures has transformed the site into a place for all to come and gather for good beers, food and music.

Warralily Cockatoo

This is my local neighbourhood cafe.

With great coffee at good prices, this is my go to destination for a morning coffee and their sweet corn fritters with heirloom tomatoes and jalapeno mojo.

Born & Bread Bakehouse

I cannot recommend this place enough. It is by far the best retail bakery in Geelong. Whether you want to sit in and enjoy a coffee and croissant or take some bread or pastries home, they never disappoint. My favourite go-to here is the chicken sandwich they do at lunchtime.

Little Green Corner

I love everything they do. They use produce they grow as well as other items grown by locals they trade for with coffee. They are also working towards the goal of minimal waste, which is not easy to do and is an inspiration to the industry.

Ravens Creek Farm

Again you don't get much more local than this with eggs, pork and vegetables all coming from the farm itself, with the added bonus of a large play area for the kids and pick-your-own berries in the summer.

Scotchmans Hill

We love coming here and sitting outside with the kids who even have their own mini picnic table to sit at.

Enjoy great wines (my favourite is the Scotchmans Hill chardonnay) while looking at the vines and eating their Bellarine produce platter, which showcases Corinne and Peter Blacket's award-winning goat's cheese made just down the road.
